Theme: Spinal Cord Care: The Next Decade

Dear colleagues, delegates and friends

We hope you are all well and safe during these extraordinary times as we face unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many lives have been lost and millions around the world have suffered ill health.  We are continuously monitoring COVID-19 statistics and projections as supplied by NICD and DOH. With vaccination of healthcare workers we are positive that an in-person congress will be possible at the beginning of November provided that restrictions on gatherings and travel allow us to continue.

Our international speakers have all indicated a commitment and excitement to participate in person, but will be accommodated in the academic program via web-based participation should international travel restrictions prevent them from attending.

We are committed to provide all relevant measures to assist in the safety of our attendees. In the event that the situation drastically changes in the period leading up to the congress, our contingency plans will be communicated timeously.

I am honoured to invite you to the biannual SASCA Congress on 03 – 06 November 2021, this time in Stellenbosch!

The format of the conference has been changed to a hybrid meeting where a part of the audience joins from the conference venue that will be used as a studio and another part joins remotely, enabled by audio and video conferencing technology where presentations will be shared. Participants who make use of the virtual option, can attend the live presentations or view presentations on demand from the comfort and safety of their home/office.

The virtual event platform will include interactive features like a chat function, polls and live Q & A sessions. You will also have access to a virtual exhibition and Electronic poster area where on demand videos and communication with poster presenters and exhibitors will be possible.

I want to encourage you to attend AND submit an abstract. An interesting case presentation is equally as valuable as original research or retrospective reviews. Spinal care in South Africa is under pressure. I hope that by attending you will gain insight, knowledge, and enjoy discussions with many like-minded colleagues, thereby improving the service we deliver.

SASCA has invited Dr Marcalee Alexander(USA), Dr Johanna Wangdell (Sweden) and Dr Nazirah Hasnan (Malaysia) as invited faculty members, all of whom will bring a wide variety of topics to discuss and present.

Please make the most of this wonderful opportunity to meet in the beautiful Cape, and broaden your Spinal mind!
